Johnathan De La Cruz is a Mexican-American designer and artist at the University of North Texas, working on his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Fashion Design and minoring in Merchandising, Photography, and Sculpture. Throughout his years at UNT, he has acquired a broad range of knowledge and skills, weaving them together to create a unique perspective and meaningful works of art. He approaches his craft with a deep understanding of the intricate threads that make up the world of art and design. As a child of immigrant parents and a first-generation student, De La Cruz knows the challenges of navigating different cultures and weaving them together into a cohesive whole. Through his art, he explores the ways in which different threads can come together to form something beautiful and meaningful.
As a designer, Johnathan De La Cruz sees the world of fashion as a diverse ecosystem that thrives best with inclusivity, branching into a multitude of backgrounds. He believes in nurturing sustainability, using eco-friendly materials and practices to cultivate a healthy and balanced environment. Each piece in the collection speaks to the wondrous and multifaceted nature of our world. Created through De La Cruz's unique perspective, technical skills, and creative vision, he presents works of art that are both stunning and thought-provoking. In Genesis Collections, each collection tells a story, representing a union of traditional craftsmanship and modern design, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with fabric and thread. Through his art, he invites viewers to see through the stained glass, appreciating the intricate and complex tessellations that compose our world.
